The globalization drive had a profound impact on the World economy indicators. But today, countries are witnessing a new era of protectionism in trade and an inward-looking policy, where political support for globalization policies are fast eroding. In India, the foreign merchandise trade as a share of GDP that rose from 1986 to 2012, has since then, been on a downhill ride. In the current scenario, De-globalization is being used by economic and market gurus to highlight the trend of several countries wanting to go back to economic and trade policies that put their national interests first. It seems that we have now reached the maximum level of globalization compatible with maintaining individual profitability of nations. There is thus a need to deliberate upon understanding the far-reaching consequences of the new order: “De globalization”. In this background IPER felt that it is relevant to study the pros and cons of this significant change in World trade scenario and assess it impact on Business in India in particular.
